People like to ask if I’m a photographer. I usually just say I’m a person who likes taking photos – simple as that. I don’t do this for a living, I can go weeks without taking photos of anything. I’ve been fortunate, though, to travel to some really great places since taking up photography a bit more seriously in the past few years, and I’m also fortunate to live in a city like Chicago that comes with such great photographic opportunities. I’m fascinated with landscapes, and I like taking photos of the places I could stand in for hours and watch the world go by if only to remind me that I was lucky enough to be there for even a few minutes. In that regard, vacations to Ireland, Iceland, Italy, and Paris kept my camera pretty busy over the past two years. I also have a site on Tumblr – StandHereForever.com – devoted to my own landscape photography and that of photographers I’ve come to admire on Flickr. I take photos with a Nikon D90, Nikon Coolpix S8200, and an iPhone 4. My DSLR equipment includes: Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f1.8, Sigma 70-210mm f5.6. Random Transmission is my blog to keep track of things… photography, architecture, design and art, music, fashion, books, magazines, snowboarding, and anything else that grabs my interest. I hate forgetting things and try and keep most things I want to remember posted there. For all of us there is a thread that runs through our interests, connecting each one in some way that a line of similarity is created from something like a song to a photograph, from a book to a band, from artwork to architecture, and all the way back around that cycle. If the blog is anything really, that’s about what it is for me. I’ve been a musician for more than 20 years and play guitar and sing. I was in a band in Chicago until late 2010, and these days focus more of my time on making my own music – mostly instrumental and electronic/ambient songs. If I could get rid of every other hobby I could focus on this much more… Music has long been one of the best things in my life; it’s just a matter of finding the time these days.RandomTransmission.com
